 2016 Preview 


       J.U. Blacksher completed the 2015 season with a 7-4 record. Last year J.U. Blacksher captured the region one title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 5-1 record. It was the first region championship for the Bulldogs since the 2006 season. J.U. Blacksher's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Verbena by a score of 21-13.

       The Bulldogs won as many games as in any season since 2008. The 393 points scored by the Bulldogs last year were a team record in a single season.

       Since 2010, J.U. Blacksher has gone a combined 19-43. Their 31.0% winning percentage ranks 47th in Class 2A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, J.U. Blacksher has managed to compile a record of 93-168. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 2A and 309th in the AHSAA.

       The Bulldogs are led by head coach Wesley Sims who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 19-43 over the past six seasons at J.U. Blacksher. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won one region crown with Coach Sims.

       Coach Sims' overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 19-43 (30.6%).

       The J.U. Blacksher Bulldogs will play in Class 2A region one during the 2016 season. The Bulldogs move up in classification to Class 2A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

       The Bulldogs will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region one this season.

       The Bulldogs open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Northview FL on Friday, August 19 at John M. Sawyer Memorial Stadium.

       This will be the second meeting between J.U. Blacksher and Northview FL on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 0-1-0 record against Northview FL. They last met in with

       J.U. Blacksher returns 1A All-State Senior punter Anthony Reddit. He was named to the second team last season. The Bulldogs also return Senior defensive back Tyler Dean. He was named to the first team.

From 1947 until his retirement in 1992 Glenn Daniel's teams won 302 games at Pine Hill and Luverne. He was the winningest coach in state history until 2010.
